Students, staff and faculty members at Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) have warmly welcomed the new Chief of Staff John Carrillo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief of Staff role supports the President and the President\u2019s Council members in advancing university priorities that they have identified and providing input and council when appropriate to assure the best academic experience possible for the students and the best work environment possible for the faculty and staff, according to the TAMUK website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Carrillo was not actively searching for a new job, a close friend suggested he consider the position and apply, since his next step in life was to become a Chief of Staff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter I read the job description and learned more about the university, I applied online and went through the applicant process,\u201d Carrillo said. \u201cWhat drew me to the role and to A&M-Kingsville was its commitment, as a Hispanic Serving Institution, to serving the South Texas community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Carrillo believes in the power of higher education and its ability to not only have an impact on students, but the generational impact it can have on the trajectory of their families as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since he started this position Sept. 13, this transition has been somewhat of a whirlwind for Carrillo, as the Office of the President can be very fast paced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Chief of Staff position is a critical role in any administration, and I am confident that Mr. Carrillo\u2019s experience in project management and strategic initiatives will help move the University forward,\u201d TAMUK President Dr. Mark A. Hussey said. \u201cHe has been here for just five weeks and has already spent time connecting with individuals across campus and the Kingsville\/Coastal Bend community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hussey has identified certain areas Carrillo can provide leadership in, such as helping to implement and assess TAMUK\u2019s new strategic plan, but Carrillo is taking this time to ensure he understands the Kingsville community and the opportunities the town and university have to offer students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
