{"id":6624,"date":"2022-02-09T09:07:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T09:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=6624"},"modified":"2022-02-08T21:23:56","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T21:23:56","slug":"tamuk-basketball-split-the-gold-rush","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2022\/02\/09\/tamuk-basketball-split-the-gold-rush\/","title":{"rendered":"TAMUK basketball split the Gold Rush"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong><em>Women win, men lose to SEU<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Texas A&amp;M University- Kingsville (TAMUK) Javelina men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball hosted their Javelina Goldrush game against St. Edwards University (SEU) Thursday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Javelina Women\u2019s played St. Edwards Hilltoppers and won, 75- 55.&nbsp; Javelina men\u2019s played St. Edwards Hilltoppers and lost, 74- 78.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Javelina Gold Rush games we\u2019re electrifying. The crowd was getting into it and the athletes on both the women\u2019s and men\u2019s teams from both sides were playing at a very high level. This was my first college basketball game as a TAMUK student, and I hope to attend another game soon,\u201d a student in attendance, Clay Smith, said. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The game started off with the first points of the night scored by Mia Rivers.&nbsp; They scored 22 points inside the paint.&nbsp; The Javelinas took advantage on defense and converted 12 points off turnovers and the bench alone put up 34 points total. Some notable scorers were Mia Cherry and Rivers.&nbsp; Their season record is 14- 6 and 7-2 in conference.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thought we were pretty solid,\u201d coach Michael Madrid told Javelina Athletics. \u201cThe way we\u2019re able to share the ball, it\u2019s a matter of who can contribute. We\u2019ve got a lot of depth and a lot of really good players, and it\u2019s a matter of who\u2019s playing well that particular night and tonight we were fortunate that a lot of them were playing well.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The men\u2019s game opened with a 3-pointer scored by number Derek Luna, beating the shot clock.&nbsp; The Javelinas ended the first half down 41-31 but came back in the second half.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The highlight of the game was a rim rocking dunk by number Dayante McClellan, which put the crowd on their feet and electrified everybody in attendance.&nbsp; Some notable scorers were Jordan Wilson and C.J.
