{"id":6860,"date":"2022-03-21T20:39:49","date_gmt":"2022-03-21T20:39:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=6860"},"modified":"2022-03-21T20:53:12","modified_gmt":"2022-03-21T20:53:12","slug":"delancy-wins-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2022\/03\/21\/delancy-wins-gold\/","title":{"rendered":"Delancy wins gold"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jamaican native LSC champ<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Last weekend, the Javelina Track and Field team competed in the 2022 Lone Star Conference (LSC) Indoor meet in Lubbock, Texas. Senior D.J. Delancy from Bethel Town, Jamaica came out on top winning gold in the Men\u2019s Shot Put and became a champion in the LSC with his winning throw at 17.34m (56-10.75).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo be honest I didn\u2019t feel anything, I wasn\u2019t surprised because I was the No. 1 ranked shot putter going into the conference championship and I was expected to win it. I was leading the competition with my first throw\u2026I wasn\u2019t surprised\u2026I was grateful\u2026I was happy that I won it\u2026but I wasn\u2019t surprised,\u201d Delancy said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving forward the team plan to keep this same winning intensity going into the outdoor season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to make it to the National Outdoor Championships, so I guess we\u2019ll taper down and reduce workload and start increasing the intensity\u2026we\u2019ll improve the intensity, decrease the workload, and sharpen up on the technique and see what needs to be finetuned\u2026 and just start hitting the ball harder,\u201d Delancy said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head Track Coach Ryan Dall and Throws Coach Ryan Petrocchi felt great about the outcome for both their runners and throwers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOverall, as a team we had a very good meet\u2026our athletes performed well as a whole, and they prepared well\u2026they competed hard, really left it on the track. I was excited with the results and the way everyone competed\u2026seeing an athlete having a personal best or season best\u2026as a coach it really makes you feel good and knowing that you timed the training well to where everyone was ready to do their best\u2026it was exciting watching them compete and fun, I was proud of the way they all performed,\u201d Dall said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throws coach Petrocchi and his throwers had their hearts out on this great jump start and kept their eye on the winning goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel obviously great for them, that\u2019s what I came here for. To push those guys and girls to do their best in the weight room with their form and we\u2019ve had this goal from day one so it wasn\u2019t a matter of how it was going to happen\u2026it was a matter of when for these guys because we\u2019ve honestly pushed it hard and we\u2019ve had our eyes on this prize for a while now and to finally see it come to passes it\u2019s exciting for them,\u201d Petrocchi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Javelinas are ready for the outdoor season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIndoor was awesome, we had great experiences it was just an upward climb for all our athletes on the throwing side, running side and jumping side\u2026now we\u2019ve had that great jumping off point it\u2019s just time to keep building for that final chapter for outdoor.
