The United States has always faced the challenge of diversification in government and continues to face it because of the ignorance of those in power.

For the first time in history, a black woman is being nominated to the Supreme Court. Ketanji Brown Jackson is highly qualified for the position.

She attended Harvard as an undergraduate and Harvard Law, is the Former Vice Chair of the United States Sentencing Commission, and has nearly 10 years of experience as a judge. It is a very important moment in history that the first black woman gets appointed to the Supreme Court.

Many elected officials have made the confirmation hearings about other subject matters like race, gender, and sexuality rather than focusing on Jackson’s actual professional experience. Jackson faces a lot of criticism because people think President Joe Biden nominated her solely based on her being a black woman and trying to fill a quota.

“This nomination is not about filling a quota. It’s about time. It’s about time that we have a highly qualified, highly accomplished black woman on the Supreme Court,” Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono said.

The argument that her nomination is based on her gender and race is completely biased. People fail to realize that there have been many times in history when someone has been more than qualified to serve in our government but were not chosen because they were a woman or a person of color. Coincidentally, most of the people making this argument happen to be white men, the same people that hold the majority of the power in this country already.

I think that Ketanji Brown Jackson should be the next Supreme Court justice. She is more than qualified if you were to compare her to current justices but more importantly, she is a better representation of the people of the United States.

Within the 233 years that the Supreme Court has been established there have been 114 Supreme Court Justices, of those, 108 have been white men.…

[7

233
post-6910","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-opinion
https://thesouthtexan.com/wp-content/litespeed/avatar/be76e91319a46574d386477e0fe2c8ce.jpg?ver=1778637593","0":null,"1":"","2":"","3":"","4":"","5":"","6":"","7":"","8":"
["GET
