{"id":7551,"date":"2022-09-08T17:27:33","date_gmt":"2022-09-08T17:27:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=7551"},"modified":"2022-09-11T17:29:44","modified_gmt":"2022-09-11T17:29:44","slug":"tamuk-tradition-lives-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2022\/09\/08\/tamuk-tradition-lives-on\/","title":{"rendered":"TAMUK tradition lives on"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students,&nbsp;athletes&nbsp;celebrate start&nbsp;of fall sports<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahead of the first football game of the semester, Texas A&amp;M University \u2013 Kingsville (TAMUK) held the first Hog Call to kick off the school year, at which students, athletes and coaches reveled in the Javelina spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hog Call, an annual tradition at TAMUK, was held on Sept. 1 in between Martin Hall and the Javelina Dining Hall. This celebration kicks off the year for students and celebrates the upcoming fall sports. It was sponsored by the Student Government Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe purpose of this event is to bring out your true pride for the Javelina Nation and to show the athletes how much spirit everyone has for their upcoming season,\u201d Student Body President Tyler Larraga said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Larraga looks forward to freshmen feeling inspired to show their pride for TAMUK in more events to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHog Call brings people together with a passion. When freshmen come together with the upper classmen, they build this common interest of pride and support for our student athletes,\u201d Head Men\u2019s Basketball Coach Johnny Estelle said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many freshmen were in attendance Thursday night, showing off their dance moves and meeting new people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince Kingsville is such a small community it\u2019s so fun to come out and meet new people and dance to <em>Copperhead Road<\/em>,\u201d Animal Science major Daniella Garcia said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who attended the rally showed their school spirit by cheering on the fall sports teams.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coaches and players attended Hog Call to continue the traditions that have been around since they were a student athlete here at TAMUK.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is a precious time for student athletes to come together and show pride,\u201d Estelle said. \u201cBeing an athlete here, traditions and moments like these are the ones that make the precious memories.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Estelle looks forward to this tradition knowing that it kicks off the year and brings everyone together with a common interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMake it yours, this is your school, embrace it.
