Football kicked<\/em> off Saturday<\/em> Sep 3<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last season, the Javelinas finished the year with conference record of 3-4 and an overall record of 5-5. With the Lone Star Conference adding in a new team, Simon Fraser, as well as the Javelinas facing teams they have never faced before or teams that they have not faced off against in a few years, there will be challenges this season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahead of Saturday\u2019s game against North American, coaches and team leaders voiced how they feel stepping into a new season, starting fresh, and ultimately where their confidence is and how prepared they feel.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have been going into it at practice, trying to get things together and in order and be technically sound. Also trying to understand where we fit well in the scheme and have great chemistry,\u201d Ezrah Thibodeaux said of the defense. \u201cIn terms of our confidence, we have been working hard to get this win and start the year off good for TAMUK.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head Coach Michael Salinas said his team is determined to succeed this season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur returning players were not happy with the outcome of last year and with the addition of newcomers coming into the program, we look to bring in a winning mentality,\u201d he said. \u201c[The team] stands ready and fully prepared to take on this season head on and one game at a time.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For now, the Javelinas football team looks ready and prepared to kick off the season.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe know they (North American) are going to play hard like any college team. They\u2019re going to give us their best fight, but we have watched film on them and know what to expect and execute our gameplan,\u201d said running back Christian Anderson ahead of Saturday\u2019s game.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anderson says the offense as whole has taken a step forward in the running game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe run a lot of run-pass option play, so we can get multiple people involved and we also rotate a lot with the running back group and put a lot of trust in our guys blocking for us up front,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
