Kingsville suffers first loss of the season<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the biggest game of the year that could decide the winner of the Lone Star Conference this season, the Texas A&M Kingsville (TAMUK) Javelinas and the Angelo State University (ASU) Rams met in Angelo State. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With both teams going into tonight\u2019s game undefeated the stakes were higher than ever which added to this intense rivalry, but the Javelinas came up short. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first drive for the Javelinas showed promise but failed to put points on the board. While the offense struggled, the defense held up as they allowed a few big plays here and there but kept their bend-but-don\u2019t-break mentality alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately, things quickly seemed to not go the Javelinas\u2019way as penalties and inability to hold back the ASU pass rush proved to be the deciding factor in this game. The defense did what it could and forced multiple turnovers, a fumble and an interception. The offense could not capitalize on opportunities, including a great starting field position when wide receiver Craig Clemons ran a kickoff return all the way to mid-field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The offense failed to reach the red zone and gain points. It was the defense that scored the only Javelina points of the game when Amos Coleman intercepted and ran the ball back 20 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the game went on, the Rams continued to attack the defense head on which quickly overpowered the Javelinas. At halftime the score was 20-7. The stars did not align tonight as penalties and more mistakes led to the Javelinas losing 34-7. Though the players, coaching staff, and all of Javelina nation are saddened by the loss the season is not over yet. The Javelinas sit at 7-1 and are currently in second place in the Lone Star Conference.With three games left, the chance of seeing the Javelinas make it to the post season is still very much alive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
