Students invited to hang out and have fun<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the midst of their LSC stretch of games, the Javelina tennis team decided to host a jamboree for its players as well as all TAMUK students and faculty. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were encouraged to come out and play some games as well as enjoy free food and free samples from the local Smoothie King. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Javelina tennis courts were filled with students who came out to have some fun. Many won gift cards from the events that they participated in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was a great way to shed some light on the tennis team and bring campus a bit closer to the team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis helps my players become more approachable and because they are from different countries people think there is a language barrier but there really isn\u2019t and I think it helps the student body get to know the tennis team,\u201d Coach Autumn Wollenzien said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach Wollenzien had high hopes that the jamboree would help the tennis team gain more attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey are hard to see because the courts are so far away from everything that\u2019s going on so to have everyone here on our courts and have everything more accessible it adds to the environment of the university,\u201d Coach Wollenzienadded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with the coach feeling the effects of the turnout, the team felt very grateful for the campus coming out and having fun with them on the tennis court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe jamboree brings more people out and enjoy tennis and see how much fun it is to play and also this will help when we want people to come out for our matches,\u201d freshman Kaitlin Blount said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the South Texas sun beaming down on everyone, it did not derail any players, coaches or members of campus from having fun and enjoying themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As they sipped on samples from Smoothie King and competed in competitions before rounding off the events with each person competing in one-on-one matches, laughs were shared and fun memories were made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI saw a flyer and a couple of friends told me there was something going on out here and I heard of all the fun things they were doing so I figured why not,\u201d Javelina Cody Fountain said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His experience represented how everyone felt at the jamboree. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was fun and I was lucky to win a gas card and play some tennis and have some fun,\u201d Fountain added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All in all, this helped the tennis team relax and enjoy some fun before getting back to business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey really wanted to have fun today and bring everyone out and I think a lot of sports get attention and with this they get introduced to campus and this makes them feel valuable to the university and this helps them relax and have fun,\u201d Coach Wollenzien said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Javelina Tennis now begins to shift their focus as they prepare for Midwestern State at noon, Friday, March 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
