STUNT will be the latest addition to Javelina athletics. This will be similar to the dance team and the Javelina cheer team except it adds in more gymnastics.

“As an athletic department, we are always looking for ways to enhance the student-athlete experience and with STUNT becoming an emerging sport we saw this as an opportunity to provide yet another high-quality opportunity for our female student-athletes,” Athletic Director Steve Roach said.

With a roster size of 36, the team will continue to add to the legacy of the Javelinas. Routines that the team will learn include partner stunts as well as basket tosses and pyramids. They will perform head-to-head against another team for four quarters. The point system is based on the performance of the teams that are competing and can earn up to three points each quarter.

After the end of each quarter, a winner will be determined and awarded a point for that quarter and the team with the most points at the end of the competition wins. Along with this, the team who wins the respective quarter will get to determine which routine both teams would have to do for the following quarter. As of now the only other universities that have a STUNT team in the Javelinas’ conference are UT Tyler, Texas Women’s, Dallas Baptist and St. Mary’s universities.

Excitement has already begun building up.

“We are eager to get our new program off the ground, and we have already heard from a number of students interested in joining Javelina STUNT,” TAMUK President Robert Vela said.

Javelina STUNT will call the Steinke Physical Education Center home, with a national search to find the program’s inaugural head coach beginning soon, according to Javelina Athletics.

“This will be an exciting and new sport for our female Javelina athletes to join,” Javelina Athletics announced. “Though practices will not begin until next fall and competitions will not start until the Spring of 2025, Javelina athletics is already looking for those who are interested in joining the team.”

There is a link on the Javelina Athletics website as well as on the Javelina cheer team’s Instagram @javelinacheerleading for more information.

Inaugural STUNT season is set for 2024-2025 In the fall 2024, TAMUK will bring in a new sport.
