Ten students challenged Vela in a game of HOG, TAMUK’s own version of the game HORSE.

The recreational sports center recently renovated its basketball courtroom floor. The new basketball courts show off the school colors by having a gold court and a blue court. The courts also feature the original Porky logo (from when the university hailed as A&I) and the current Javelina logo.

“I like the original Porky addition. We are really good about pride, and we really enjoy seeing when our alumni come by,” student worker Mercedes Macias said.

The logo was incorporated to represent the university’s history on behalf of the Texas A&I Alumni. Hosting this basketball event was a great way to show off their new and improved basketball court floor.

Vela has taken part in many student activities throughout the campus.

“It’s important for us as leaders and educators to show our students that we’re normal, sometimes it’s okay for us to be a little goofy and loose with students,” Vela said.

He said the students are the heart of this campus and has made it a top priority to make sure that they feel welcomed to the community. Students volunteered against Vela and were given prizes for participating. Each volunteer received a rec sports drawstring backpack filled with other promotional products including a water bottle, stickers and a pair of sunglasses.

Alongside Vela was Dr. Rito Silva, vice president of enrollment services and student affairs. Silva welcomed each volunteer to the courts and initiated the start of each round. The students played with Vela until one of them completed the word HOG.

Student volunteer Dayton Noriega said it is important to take part in events like these on campus and have a relationship with the president of the university.

“I love this school and I believe he is doing a very good job; I would love to have a relationship with him,” Noriega said.

Students are encouraged to not only strive in their academics but enjoy their time at the university as well as enjoy the new court logos.

Game of HOG reveals Porky logo Texas A&M University Kingsville’s (TAMUK) Recreational Sports Center (REC) recently hosted a game of basketball with Dr. Robert Vela,…

[5

258
post-9148","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-campus
https://thesouthtexan.com/wp-content/litespeed/avatar/c3b3c7bd203ebea9f6eb2461157e2629.jpg?ver=1779063291","0":null,"1":"","2":"","3":"","4":"","5":"","6":"","7":"","8":"
["GET
