{"id":9208,"date":"2023-09-15T17:02:46","date_gmt":"2023-09-15T17:02:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=9208"},"modified":"2023-09-15T17:03:24","modified_gmt":"2023-09-15T17:03:24","slug":"volleyball-gets-ball-rolling-in-season-opener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2023\/09\/15\/volleyball-gets-ball-rolling-in-season-opener\/","title":{"rendered":"Volleyball gets ball rolling\u00a0 in season opener"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Javelinas host first invitational tournament\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After a powerful last season, the Texas A&amp;M-Kingsville University Women\u2019s Volleyball team was ready to kick start the Fall semester by hosting the first invitational tournament here on their turf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeing able to start the season here was honestly great because the girl\u2019s parents are able come out and watch them play and we have the home court advantage along with the student body and faculty being able to come check out the team,\u201d Assistant Coach Alexa Ruiz said. \u201cIt was a great opportunity to challenge their first competition on their home court.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This invitational tournament was the first one the Javelinas have hosted in five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI just knew we had to keep the energy really high and stay focused and really capitalize on our opponent getting tired,\u201d senior player Ally Stachowiak said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were in better shape, so we were able to get some kills and have a good offense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Javelinas came out on top in the tournament by extending their home winning streak to 14 matches straight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had outstanding offense, we had multiple hitters hitting for high numbers, we hit for a huge percentage\u2026we were just really, really great offensively,\u201d Head Coach Tanya Allen Gonzalez said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Javelinas went into this tournament with high intensity and high hopes of winning, they have worked hard and bonded throughout the summer and have also added a few new recruits to their Javelina pack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe new recruits have really good energy- really fun to be around, they\u2019re really smart but they have a lot to learn, and I think they understand that. They\u2019ve been working hard to try to learn it. \u201d Allen-Gonzalez said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re also really fun to work with, so they have meshed well with some of the older kids.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head Coach Allen-Gonzalez has held each of her players to high expectations and they have all shown great ambition to represent the Javelinas, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think the team performed very well offensively.
