Senior Jackie Alanis started the Javelina volleyball season off by winning Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Yellow Jacket Classic. As an outside hitter, Alanis registered 51 kills with a hitting percentage of .295 earning her the MVP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This isn\u2019t her first collegiate recognition as she recently won the Lonestar Conference Offensive Player of the Week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even with all of Alanis\u2019s recent success and MVP tournament play she still remains a humble leader, with a focus more on winning as a team rather than her individual play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYeah, the credit is going to just my name but I also like to give the credit to my team because I can’t just do it by myself,\u201d Alanis said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Yellow Jacket Classic consisted of six teams over three days in Spears, Mont. Alanis says her preparation was no different for this tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo not really you wake up every morning and just think that \u2018oh we have to do good; we have to win because every match matters,\u2019 but like I said earlier I really can’t just give myself credit because I can’t really win the MVP without my team,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Head Javelinas Volleyball Coach Tanya Allen reiterated how much Alanis means to this team as a leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHer presence is a big part of our success and she is a leader. She’s been here for a few years, so she understands what we want and what we expect of the team. So, she’s able to both set an example and then kind of guide the younger ones, and then obviously she’s super talented, so that really is a huge impact on our success,\u201d Allen said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Assistant Coach Gary Pane has a lot of high praise for Alanis and the team and just gave off the sense that he knows when the team is good, they are the team to beat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOverall, when everybody’s playing the way they’re capable of playing, we’re going to be a pretty good team and we’re going to be one that the Lone star Conference is going to have to watch out for” Payne said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
