Despite his many accolades, Amos Coleman could not celebrate at the end of the Javelinas\u2019 season last year. Finishing with five straight losses placed a cloud over his All-American title. Instead of celebrating, Coleman felt a sense of \u201cunfinished business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the 2023 season opener against Colorado Mesa, the Texas A&M University-Kingsville football team started the season off with its first victory, and defensive back Coleman recorded one pass-breakup, one sack and one kick-off returned for a touchdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the week two victory over West Georgia State University, Coleman recorded nine tackles, two interceptions, one forced-fumble and one fumble recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With his performances, Coleman was honored Lone Star Conference Player of the week back-to-back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Being honored All American last season and breaking conference records was only the start to his career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe truth of the matter is, I never truly celebrated my All-American title because I felt as though there should have been more that came out of that season,\u201d Coleman said, \u201cand in so many words for me I still have unfinished business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is Coleman\u2019s final season with the Javelinas, and Coleman considers this to be his redemption season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMy main focus this year is enjoying each game, play by play. I feel really strong about this season, not only with this being my last year but having my teammates and coaches by my side,\u201d Coleman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over the past three years, Head Coach Mike Salinas has truly enjoyed coaching Coleman. \u201cColeman is very coachable, in fact one of the easier ones to coach. Each day, he comes prepared, ready to work\u2026,\u201d Coach Salinas said. \u201cHe has not only progressed and improved his individual technique but has also been a leader on the team. His character both on and off the field is labeled as high integrity.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Salinas says Coleman signifies something valuable because not only has he taken care of his responsibilities on the field, but also off the field with his academics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the new defensive coordinator having the opportunity to coach Coleman during his last season, the defense has shown much growth and has proven itself in each game. \u201cAmos responds well to coaching; he has improved football intelligence. He always comes to meetings each day with the mindset and intentions to improve,\u201d Defensive Coordinator Jamison Bisch said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coleman and his teammates continue to push forward as they now prepare for their upcoming game on Sept. 30 against Texas Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
