Then take your chances at Javelina Madness, hosted by the men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 9, at the Steinke Physical Education Center (SPEC).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first couple hundred students will receive a free T-shirt. There will also be limited edition seasonal posters being handed out. Along with all the goodies is an opportunity for students to win big. There will be on the court games for students to participate in, such as a half-court shot for a cash prize. Along with the half court shot will be a giveaway for students to attend a San Antonio Spurs game. Not just any Spurs game but the Spurs vs. the Lakers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Javelina Madness, more importantly, is trying to get students ready for basketball season. This is an opportunity to bring students to the SPEC and meet all the new and old faces of Javelina basketball.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be an introduction of each player of both teams along with some cool theatrics. There will also be a three point and slam dunk contest for students to see the talent of TAMUK basketball programs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt will definitely be a show and a great kick off to start the upcoming season. We can\u2019t wait to get started and show everybody what we are about,\u201d Assistant Coach of the women\u2019s basketball team Rachel Barnes said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As basketball season is coming up the players have said they really appreciate the student body support.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is super exciting getting the students to come out and support. We love to pack the SPEC and play in front of such an electric crowd,\u201d Mia Rivers, the starting point guard for the women\u2019s team, said. Javelina basketball players and staff want to pack the house for Javelina Madness as well as for the season.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both teams will start their seasons in the beginning of November. The men\u2019s team will have its first official home game on Nov. 22 against Our Lady of the Lake University. Both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s team will open conference play at home Nov. 30 against Angelo State University, the first home game for the women.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t wait to play in front of our home crowd and hope for everyone to come watch us dominate this season,\u201d Kavon Booker, senior for the men\u2019s team, said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Event, giveaways Monday at the\u00a0SPEC Students, do you want to win some cash or go to an NBA game?
