TAMUK hosts Latin Composers Concert<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) School of Music recently hosted a Latin composer\u2019s recital, put on by faculty and staff to highlight Hispanic Heritage Month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event featured many students and faculty performing several pieces of music from Hispanic and Latin artists all over the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students that performed in the recital went through different auditions and practices to earn their spot, and many were excited to show the public all they had to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c I\u2019ll be performing Fantasia by Peredo. He is a Peruvian flutist and composer\u2026I\u2019m really excited, it\u2019s going to be fun,\u201d Kristen Williams, flutist performer said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Williams described Peredo\u2019s music as contemporary and influenced Peruvian traditions. Williams also prepared artwork inspired by Peredo\u2019s music to be displayed as she performed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Javier Salinas, a Lecturer of Latin American Music and Director of Mariachi Javelina also performed in the program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMe and my students have been practicing for this since the beginning of the semester,\u201d Salinas said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Salinas along with students performed Popurri by Cornelio Reyna, a famous Tejano singer and composer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heidi Guzman, another student who attended was excited to see her friends and  her clarinet professor perform in the recital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always liked Latin and Hispanic music so it\u2019s exciting to see it [be] performed,\u201d Guzman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The School of Music plans to host many more recitals like this one, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to keep an eye out for upcoming performances to attend and support their fellow Javelinas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
