Students gather for music, food, activities<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) hosted its annual homecoming block party and bonfire on Oct. 12, an event was organized to bring the student body together for the annual event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the fire was lit students were able to enjoy live music, food and activities such as rock climbing at the block party. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The block party concert was headlined for a consecutive year by senior student and art major Jose Ramirez well known by his stage name Wh\u00e4po. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHonestly, [I\u2019m] honored you know. It\u2019s my last year here [and] I am a senior and I love this school. I love the energy that they bring, the community is amazing I won homecoming king last year and it\u2019s just been awesome the people I\u2019ve met and stories I\u2019ve made are amazing,\u201d Wh\u00e4po said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Multiple artists and groups were present and made their voices heard as they were able to showcase their talents by performing for the student body as openers to the second-time headliner Wh\u00e4po. One of the groups was Grupo Vaquero, one of the various bands and artists who participated in the open mic night a couple of weeks ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRight now we are part of Grupo Vaquero, you know we come here to have a good time and put on a good show as usual, and if y\u2019all haven\u2019t heard me might as well hear me now. Right now I\u2019m pretty happy, the outcome is going to be good instead of playing at little bars or small events, it\u2019s a big event so we\u2019re going to have 400 to 500 people,\u201d Grupo Vaquero member Luis Ramirez said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Homecoming is a week-long celebration that many students, alumni and people in the community look forward to stacked with many different events throughout the long week such as the homecoming parade and concert. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Homecoming week is capped off by the tailgate which is always a success with the football game following right after on Saturday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cProbably tailgate, because Sunday is my birthday so I\u2019m celebrating my birthday at tailgate, so I\u2019m pretty excited it\u2019s going to be a packed weekend,\u201d Amberley Zaragoza, graduate student, said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
