With the holidays approaching and the town filling their trees and streets with light, it was time for Texas A&M University Kingsville (TAMUK) to make their grand entrance with its light show.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
University President Dr. Robert Vela had the opportunity to flip the switch for the Campus Tree Lighting last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey have been working for hours. I see them trimming the trees and getting everything just right; making sure that every bulb is working perfectly. It\u2019s just a labor of love and they do that because they love this university like we love our university,\u201d Vela said of the staff who decorated the outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Campus Tree Lighting is an annual tradition that marks the beginning of December celebrations on campus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is also an event in which students, faculty and staff can enjoy hot chocolate and talk to each other about what they plan on doing for the holidays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s cool to see all of the lights set up on campus. Seeing everyone gather for this simple yet impactful event is great. This is my first time coming to this type of light show from the school and it\u2019s nice to be able to send pictures to my family and let them know what is happening while I\u2019m here,\u201d student Jaeden Espinosa said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tradition brings the Kingsville and TAMUK community to College Hall at the center of University Boulevard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event is still being discovered every year by new and old students alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI had to come [for my job] but honestly it was really cute and this is the first time I\u2019ve come and I think it is definitely worth it and more people should attend,\u201d Resident Assistant Melanie Torres said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
