Javelina Sapphires accepting video tryout submissions

The Javelina Sapphires are holding video tryouts for the fall season.

Video submissions must be sent in by April 30.

“The video does not have a limit as long as includes a 1 to 2 minute dance,  a double or triple pirouette, left and right straight leaps plus an advanced leap of choice,  an advanced jump of choice, left, right and middle splits and two eight-counts of kicks. They’ll also need to email me serena.reopelle@tamuk.edu for a tryout application,” Administrative Coordinator Serena Reopelle said.

Reopelle recommends a positive attitude, dance experience and a ton of school spirit for someone who wants to be a Sapphire.

There is a monetary responsibility for camp fees and practice wear that will be discussed after a tryout application is received

“The most important thing we’d like for future Sapphires to know is we practice at 6 a.m., four to five times a week plus have evening practice with the TAMUK Cheer Team for Football season so time commitment is a must.”

Sapphires help and assist Student Activities with Family Weekend and Homecoming, fundraise for camp and competition fees and want to collaborate with other groups on campus to bring more school spirit to campus, Reopelle said.

“When I was first trying out, I asked everything and anything I could that might prepare myself for tryouts. If you need help with your technique or dance routine, please reach out to me and I’ll be more than willing to help you!” Colonel of the Sapphires and Student Body Vice President Lidia Morales said.
If you aren’t someone who has a dance background, don’t let that stop you from trying out, Morales said

“Being a part of Sapphires means becoming part of a sisterhood. During your freshman year in college, it’s easy to feel lost. But being involved with our team gives you a family away from home, a support group. What makes our team is teamwork,” Morales said. “It’s about what the team can do as a whole, we motivate each other to grow as dancers and give each other strength. This is not only for practices and performances but also for classes, homework and studying.”

The Javelina Sapphires perform at football games in the fall. For more information or questions contact Serena Reopelle at serena.reopelle@tamuk.edu. Video submissions should be sent to serenareopelle@gmail.com by April 30
