LSC recognizes sports information students

RICHARDSON, Texas (LSC/TAMUK) – Nearly 20 sports information students were recognized by the Lone Star Conference on Wednesday as the league announced the 2019-20 Sports Information Student Academic Award winners.

Each academic year, the LSC will recognize sports information students who devote countless hours to assist with the operation of the athletics department while also finding the time to excel in the classroom. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, sports information students must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average with a minimum of 24 semester hours at the nominating institution. The qualifications mirror those required of student-athletes to gain LSC All-Academic recognition.

The recipients represent 10 of the LSC’s 19 member institutions, with Texas A&M-Commerce honoring a league-high four honorees, followed by Oklahoma Christian with three. Cameron, Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M each had two earn the distinction, while Angelo State, DBU, Lubbock Christian, Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Tyler all had one.

Amanda DeFrees was the lone honoree from the Javelina athletic department for the 2019-20 version of the award. DeFrees has spent the last year-plus working in the sports information office in various capacities, first brought on as a student photographer in the spring of 2019 before transitioning to videography and producing hype videos and other highlight features of the Javelina athletic department.
