Hussey announces new provost and vice president of academic affairs

I am pleased to announce that I have selected Dr. Lou Reinisch as our next Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. Reinisch is an internationally-recognized researcher, a prolific scholar, and a successful entrepreneur. In his role as Associate Provost at New York Institute of Technology, he has emerged as a leader in innovate classroom design and hybrid teaching. His own personal background as a first-generation college student has inspired him to develop and champion student support systems for at-risk students.

Dr. Reinisch’s experience reflects the qualities we seek to inspire in our students—scholarship, integrity and excellence.

Universities continue to navigate uncharted waters in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and Dr. Reinisch will be a valuable asset in moving forward strategically. I am confident he will help to develop a strategic plan and vision for Texas A&M University-Kingsville that will ensure this University continues to transform the lives of students, while impacting our region and beyond. Dr. Reinisch will join us on or before August 15, 2020.

I want to thank the Provost Search Advisory Committee for their service over the past several months. The pandemic presented the committee with several logistical challenges, but they persevered and recommended exceptional candidates. I also want to express my gratitude to Dr. Allen Rasmussen for his commendable service as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. Dr. Rasmussen will continue to serve as Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies.
