Corona Virus Affecting Sports

As the new school semester starts, things are very different from the previous years due to COVID-19. The corona virus caused the whole world to be on hold for six months.

Coming from New York City, where people move to chase their dreams, it was scary to see everyone stuck in the house not knowing what’s going to happen next. Luckily, as the days passed by school, jobs and sport activities continued, or so we thought. Not everyone is happy with the rules and regulations currently implemented on campus, but we all know it’s for our safety. Student athletes like myself come from the other side of the country to get an education and chase a dream, but is it worth leaving family behind if you are only doing things you could have done at home?

We are not allowed to go into our gym or workout with our own teammates. If things were going to be like this, the school should have just made everything online. Athletes all over are trying to stay ready mentally and physically; however, everyone must suffer this sports drought even if they tested negative. Things on campus should be divided from students who have tested negative and students who have not been tested at all. Students are understanding that you want to be safe, but make things make sense.

At the recreation center, the entire student body can work out. However, it is scary not knowing where many people have been. Wiping down all machines and letting people get the chance to get away from the outside world is what the recreation center is used for. Hopefully, as weeks go by, the basketball team will resume playing and the NCAA will allow the season to continue. It is crucial that all rising stars in the NCAA, NBA and Overseas get their chance to shine.
