COVID RE-TEST

Last week on Sep.23 2020 a random mandatory COVID test was administered to all Student Athletes on campus.

To say the least we were all a bit startled, as the athletic department has been sanction to bi-weekly testing. We all are aware of how dangerous things like this can be and without knowing if anyone is contaminating the virus we all proceed with caution.

After testing I was able to get feed back from two players from the Men’s Javelina Basketball Team. These players were selected for the mandatory swab test and completed it.

“ I feel fine and I’m happy with the COVID testing, if that means we can still keep our season” said Jake Majors.

Receiving the COVID swab test takes no longer than five minutes. On a regular basis once the swab testing is completed everyone throws their test inside a red garbage can where it is then transported to another location, while we all wait for the results on our test.

Although the turnaround for the test results are received relatively quickly, it can be very nerve-wracking as we wait on the results.

“Our results come back faster than expected and that relieves stress off our shoulder when we find out that we are not sick” said Derrick Luna.

However, last weeks mandatory testing, was a result of a misplaced testing container which pushed back results by two weeks. This pushed future test dates back and could have lead to an unexpected spike in COVID cases on campus had someone tested positive without knowing their test results.

“It’s unfortunate that this happen but we hope everyone is healthy and we will have the results out within two days” said Athletic Trainer Mackenzie.

On Wednesday, Sep. 30, athletes were re-tested and will receive their results in a minimum of two days.
