Winter storm causes leak in new music building

The School of Music at Texas A&M University Kingsville experienced a severe water leak running from the second to first floor on Monday, Feb. 15.

The leak was reported to Music Director, Dr. Paul Hageman at 6:45 a.m., and University Facilities Management were contacted to get the issue under control.

“Repairs and cleaning will be ongoing for a few days – in some areas, possibly much longer,” Hageman said.

Students were prohibited from entering the facility on Feb. 15 and 16.

“Since the damage is mainly in the percussion suite and the performance hall, students should be able to return to normal classes on Wednesday, Feb 17. However, some class locations will need to be changed since some areas will not be available until everything is cleaned up,” Hageman said.

As of Feb. 16, there has not been any other facility being affected by the winter storm. The university encourages students to stay safe and be on the lookout for any weather updates.

“Our primary concern remains the health and safety of our students, staff and faculty and their families. We appreciate the dedication of the staff running the residence halls, the dining facilities, the library and campus security as well those from facilities for their quick response to the water leak in the music building,” Adriana Garza, director of marketing and communications, said.
