Synopsis: K-Drama True Beauty

Balancing school, reputation, bad boys, finding inner beauty

The K-drama, True Beauty, recently finished its series off with its final 16th episode putting many in awe and shock.

The drama focuses on Lim Ju-Gyeong who after being bullied at her old school for not being pretty, moves to a new school but with a whole new look.

Diving into her new found passion for makeup starts to become her saving grace as she takes the opportunity to prove to everyone in her new school how beautiful she can be.

While attending a new school and spending many late nights at a comic shop, Ju-Gyeong meets Lee Su-ho, one of the school’s most popular boys who has an unknown troubling past.

As her reputation as the school’s “Goddess” takes flight, Ju-Gyeong learns what it is like to have friends and a semi-normal high school life without worrying about being bullied.

But when the secret of her true looks is found out by Su-ho, and a promise to not reveal her secret is made, the two begin to form a bond as they begin to hang out not only at school but outside as well.

Throughout their friendship forming, Han Seo-Jun, the school’s bad boy begins to take an interest in Ju-Gyeong when he discovers that she is close to Su-ho.

As friendships grow and secrets begin to spill out, Ju-Gyeong has to overcome obstacles to ensure happiness in her life.

True Beauty may have the usual quirky love triangle, but it also covers important topics that are not clarified as much as they should be nowadays.

The drama shows what can happen if bul- lying is taken too far and not handled properly.

The drama also shows that although society is focused on how makeup is deemed to be a social norm, true beauty is not what you wear, it is who you are that counts more than anything.

If you do not know whether or not Korean dramas are your cup of tea but you like characters that show true development, romance and drama then maybe this is the right show for you.
