Review: Mexican Street Corn Chips

Tangy, cheesy, tacky, underwhelming

Walking down Stripes, my fat heart skipped a beat at the sight of Mexican Street Corn Cheetos. I’m not one to stray from my usual flaming Hot Fries but the lime green bag was screaming my name; I just had to get them.

Growing up in South Texas, street corn is a Mexican delicacy, so I was skeptical yet excited to try the new flavored Cheetos.

Afraid of being disappointed I opened the bag and the aroma made me smile. The lime green bag that boldly stated “Tangy- Spicy – Cheesy” did not disappoint. I could smell all three elements clearly; it was enough to fool me in thinking I was holding a corn on the cob.

Nervously, I tried the first chip and immediately regretted it. The first ingredient you taste is the cheese which leaves an overwhelmingaftertaste and drowns out the other flavors.

Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t atrocious, but it was clear it could be improved.

These chips weren’t exactly what I imagined, I was expecting a burst of spice and a definite lime flavor but was met with a bland chip sprinkled with turmeric extracts.

The chip itself has an odd yellow tint that doesn’t make it any more appetizing.

The new flavor needed more spice to simulate the street corn flavor being advertised.

Mexican Street Corn flavored Cheetos have potential but still had a long way to go when compared to a Mexican street corn.

I truly believe that if Cheetos were to incorporate more spicy flavors, these chips could be a hit. Overall, Mexican Street Corn flavored Cheetos are a solid 4.5/10.

I will pass through the Stripes in the future a little disappointed at the lime green bag.
