Javelina Experience hosts high school students

Each College assigned a home football game

The Javelina Experience event will bring many high school students to campus at each Saturday home football game this season.

In addition, they are also going to get a campus tour and view the residence halls. This is a chance to help students choose the right university that fits their needs.

The first event is taking place on Sep. 11.
“We know that if students get a chance to meet our incredible faculty and staff in person and be able to step foot on this beautiful university they will want to come here,” Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Services Dr. Rito Silva said. “We are also stressing for them to bring a parent with them. We know in our region that students are greatly influenced by their parents.  This is also another way to build relationships with the local high schools.”

Silva said the atmosphere of a Javelina tailgate and football game provides the high school student a wonderful experience on what it means to be part of Javelina Nation.

“We are currently the only university in South Texas with a football team and marching band and all the tradition that comes with our legacy of greatness,” Silva said. “Plus, Texas A&M-Kingsville offers a comprehensive college experience, with residential living and a strong campus life.”

Silva said the university is expecting more than 50 high school students for the first event and more the following games.  Each college is hosting a game, with the College of Business Administration leading off Sept. 11.

“The Javelina Experience…allows prospective students the opportunity to engage in ‘college life’ for a day by participating in classes led by our business faculty, to visit with current students and hear about their daily campus adventures,” College of Business Administration Dean Dr. Natalya Delcoure said. “Tours of the classrooms, campus and top it off with attending tailgate and a Javelina football game.  Can’t get better than that for a true Javelina Experience.”
