Review: Salmon rice bowl

Tik Tok trend that took over

Emily Mariko’s salmon rice bowl recipe was the only thing I saw on my Tik Tok feed for a while. After seeing other influencers and users make their own rice bowl, I decided it was my turn.

This recipe consists of leftover cooked salmon Emily pulls out of the fridge.

She breaks it apart with the back of her fork until the pieces are crumb-like. She then puts leftover white rice and piles it on top of the mashed salmon, adds an ice cube on top of it, covers the entire thing with parchment paper and heats up her plate in the microwave.

The purpose of the ice cube and parchment paper is to rehydrate the rice and avert the meal from drying out while in the microwave. She tops everything off with soy sauce, kewpie mayo and siracha sauce.

She gives all of that a mix, cuts an avocado and places it in the plate as well. This is eaten with dry seaweed and kimchi.  Emily puts the dried seaweed on the salmon rice bowl and uses a pair of chopsticks to pick everything up like an upside-down taco.

Because this was all I saw for weeks, I rushed to the nearest grocery store and bought everything I needed to recreate this recipe. I have to admit, I took the easy way out and bought canned salmon instead of packaged salmon… I’m a broke college student, do not judge!

This recipe took less than 20 minutes to make. After I assembled my meal, it was time to try it. *cue suspense music*

I placed a slice of avocado and seaweed on the rice bowl and scooped everything up with a pair of chopsticks.

I brought the food closer to my mouth, not knowing what to expect. I took my first bite and… it was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. I could have sworn I heard angelic voices singing behind me after that first bite.

To put it in simple terms, it was delicious.

Admittedly, this is not an out-of-the-ordinary meal. It kind of feels like you’re eating dismantled sushi, but it was incredible. The contrast between the crispy, crunchy seaweed and the smooth salmon and rice mixture balances well and leaves you wanting more. Overall, this was an easy to make and mouthwatering meal. I recommend that anyone who reads this, tries it. You have not known a true delicacy until you try this meal.
