CJO hosts Build- A- Strawberry Fundraiser

Criminal Justice Organization host Valentine’s Day vent

Texas A&M University- Kingsville (TAMUK) Criminal Justice Organization (CJO) hosted a Build- A- Strawberry event ahead of Valentine’s Day.  This event was held as a fundraiser in relation to a common Valentine’s Day gift of chocolate covered strawberries.  The Build- A- Strawberry event took place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on February 9 at the Javelina Student Engagement Center (JSEC).

“Social media is an easy way to promote activities and events going on at school, it also helps the organization grow and make connections and there was a lot of engagement in this fundraiser event. I think just because of the holiday this was going to be a fun event,” Secretary of the CJO Camila Saenz said.

This fundraiser consisted of individuals paying $10 for six strawberries or $18 for 12 strawberries.  Students could choose from red, pink or white icing, sprinkles and candies to add to their strawberries. Those in attendance got to interact with others, meet new people, mingle with the officers and just enjoy the evening.

“I personally love strawberries and chocolate covered strawberries plus it’s a fundraiser so I thought it was a fun way to go out and help the CJO raise money and make some strawberries,” attendee Amberly Zaragoza said.

It was open to the public as well as students, faculty and staff of the university. The boxes also served as gifts to loved ones or if someone just wanted to treat themselves for the hard work they have done this semester.  Overall, the fundraiser was a success and those in attendance got to take photos and make their boxes/ strawberries unique to their personal style.

“The goal of this event was mainly for outreach purposes and also since we have a holiday coming up, Valentine’s Day, we wanted to of course get involved within that holiday. We figured you know students, club members and the community can come make their own chocolate covered strawberry boxes to give to someone,” CJO President Lilly Baird said.
