Blue, Gold & Fame at talent show

Students showcase themselves at event

The Student Engagement & Campus Life organization sponsored a talent showcase open to students to give them an opportunity to perform in front of their peers. While there were only four performances it still became a night full of talent and about 50 students attended to support their friends and peers who performed.

Anna Vela and Elizabeth Abete ultimately won first place in the contest with their dance routine to Pitbulls’ Time of Our Lives

The two recently attended a Pitbull concert which inspired their performance.

“It was definitely a last-minute thing,” Abete said, but both agreed they would perform in another talent show in the future.

As in any talent show, there was a judges panel that consisted of 2021 Homecoming Queen Amberly Zaragoza, Miss TAMUK 2022 Jacqueline McClendon and 2021 Homecoming King Trenton Payne.

Payne expressed that Student Engagement had reached out to them earlier in the year in hopes to have more students involved in the talent show.

“I haven’t judged anything before so the hardest part was having to pick between the different talents,” Payne said.

Another highlight of the evening was the talent show’s MC, Morgan Jay. Jay is a comedian and was recently hired to appear on MTV’s Wildin Out. Jay was invited to MC for the show after one of the members saw him perform at one of his acts earlier this year in Kansas.

Jay said his favorite part of the show was getting to interact with students, and he would love to come back for another show if they would have him, he said.
