Review: Kendra fumbled the Barbie bag

New jewelry collection fails to impress

As most know, a live action Barbie movie has recently made its way to theatres. This sparked my interest as I grew up admiring Barbie dolls as they were the beauty standard.

As a child the main thing I was mesmerized by was their jewelry, so as soon as Kendra Scott announced their Barbie collection, I checked my bank account and ran straight to their website.

Underwhelmed is an understatement. Thankfully Kendra Scott only produces jewelry, because they fumbled this bag. I expected so much more from Kendra Scott. Barbie is an iconic character that allows for many creative options.

I was looking forward to purchasing a classic B initial necklace, but Kendra Scott didn’t even attempt to produce one.

Their product line up consists of decent options that were overpriced. I usually don’t mind investing in good quality jewelry but $130 for a charm bracelet that looks like it’s made by Claire’s is outrageous. I understand needing to incorporate your brand within a collection but sticking an oval pendant on a charm bracelet looks tacky.

Kendra Scott is known to be a nonplus size friendly brand due to the short necklace chains and lack of variety in their necklace extensions. Having this in mind, earrings would be the most inclusive item. I would imagine that the earrings would either be fun and full of color or classic and elegant.

Their ear climber which is Barbie in cursive is priced reasonably at $60 but the quality once again is poor. These earrings didn’t stand out to me, and I know I can get a more attention-grabbing piece from a vendor at a local farmer’s market.

The chain link necklace resembled a chain of paper clips and while this may be the current trend, this would not be Barbie approved.

While Kendra Scott did include pink in her collection, she mainly used it with a chunky glitter glass which is inconsistent and not something customers of all ages would enjoy.

I will admit Kendra Scott did put out decent recreations, but they failed to fulfill my pink dreams of bringing these pieces to life. This collection was better off staying fantastic in plastic.
