Registration for intramural sports begin

Flag football, dodge ball,  more offered

Now that fall is here, the University Recreational Center has announced its Intramural Sports registration dates.

The dates for the registration meetings will be flag football on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m., Dodgeball, Cricket, and Inner Tube Water Polo on Sept. 26 at 7 p.m., and Volleyball & Soccer on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.

“The registration meetings will go over how to sign up to play on campus. We play against each other, so we only play each other,” Intramural Sports Director Malik Jones said.

There are opportunities to play against other universities, too.

“If you’d like the opportunity, we could sign you up for Extramural sports which would allow you the opportunity to go and compete against other colleges,” Jones said.

Students are encouraged to sign up for any of the sports being offered, which include dodgeball, flag football, cricket, inner tube water polo, volleyball and soccer.

“The goal is to build that community feeling amongst the campus and to give students a place to go and compete just like high school athletics or even if you just want to play with your friends,” Jones said. “Intramural sports are a great way to go and gives you something to do other than go to class all the time.”

The Rec center is excited to see the outcome of the meetings and they encourage students to sign up and join one of the teams of their choice.

“This gives students the opportunity to come out and connect with each other outside of the classroom and build bonds with one another,” student assistant Jesse Lane said. “Once you meet other students it can be easier to step out of your comfort zone and join more campus activities like so.”
