Review: WWE slams audience with return of wrestling legend

‘The Viper’ strikes in ring

The 2023 WWE Survivor Series War Games PPV was one of the best events of the year. Both the men’s and women’s war games matches were spectacular. The women’s war games match was exciting as both teams brought out the best in on another.

One notable example was when the WWE women’s champion Iyo Sky placed a metal trash can on top of her and jumped off the top of the cage surrounding the ring taking out the opposing team. The team that rose victorious was the team comprised of Charlotte Flair, Bianca BelAir, Becky Lynch, and Shotzi. The team that was defeated, Damage Control, which has Asuka, the WWE Women’s champion Iyo Sky, Kairi Sane, Dakota Kai, and the supposed leader of the group Bayley.

Some matches were lackluster such as Gunther vs. The Miz for the intercontinental championship which ended in The Miz tapping out, Santos Escobar vs Dragon Lee, and Rhea Ripley vs. Zoey Stark for the Women’s World Championship which showed promise but ended up being stale.

The Men’s War Games match was perfect. The Judgement Day, Finn Balor, Damien Priest, Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh, as well as a vengeful Drew McIntyre went up against the team of Cody Rhodes, the World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, Sami Zayn, Jey Uso, and the returning Randy Orton. During the introduction of each team Randy was missing leading up to the match.

Cody’s team did their best to hold their own but the numbers were not in their favor and as it became time for the next person to enter the ring, Randy was nowhere in site. Instead, Rhea Ripley’s music would come on and she would come running out with the Money in The Bank briefcase for Damien Priest to cash in for Seth Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship.

However just as she was about to do that, Randy Orton’s music hit and out came The Viper who helped swing momentum towards he and his teammates but during the match he made it known to Jey Uso that he had not forgotten what Jey Uso and The Bloodline cost him a year and a half of his career. Differences aside, Randy Orton was the spark this match needed and it helped catapult his team to a victory.

As the men celebrated in the ring and the camera began to pan out and suddenly Cult of Personality began playing and the entire arena erupted in screams of excitement as Cm Punk would make his return to the WWE after nine years.
