Texas A&M University Kingsville shares winter weather procedure

Texas A&M University Kingsville(TAMUK) prepares for colder temperatures, as the arctic blast sweeps through the Coastal Bend.

KINGSVILLE, Texas- 

On Jan. 12 TAMUK released the following statement, 

“Due to anticipated inclement weather in our region, the Texas A&M University-Kingsville campus and the Citrus Center in Weslaco are suspending normal business operations on Tuesday, January 16, and has authorized remote work for most employees.  

Critical on-campus units will remain operational Tuesday, including the University Police Department, Residence Life, and food services. Employees should discuss questions related to remote work assignments with their supervisors.  

Student services vital to the semester’s successful start, including admissions, academic advising, financial aid, and business office, can be accessed virtually and via email and phone. The operating restaurants located at the Memorial Student Union Building will not be open on Tuesday, Jan. 16.  

On Tuesday, Jan. 16 the Javelina Dining Hall will be open from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and will open again from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m..  

Residential Halls have taken the initiative of keeping students indoors. 

Martin Hall is hosting “Cookies and Cocoa” in their lobby at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16 to encourage students to enjoy a superhero themed movie and stay warm. 

On Jan. 10, The Electric Reliability Council of Texas(Ercot) issued a Weather Watch from Jan. 15-17.  

The statement was released to inform residents of the high energy demand Texas will experience as temperatures drop.  

ERCOT may declare an energy emergency in the event that the grid conditions worsen, but have stated that they have expected “normal operations.”  

King’s Way Family Church is providing a warming station in the event that students and community members are seeking shelter, blankets, coats and heaters. 

The warming station will be open until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and is located at 1727 E. Senator Truan Blvd.
