Review: Meet Haru, Alisha and Tyler

Unique animation style brings life to new Pokémon story

When it comes to Pokémon, there have been a lot of products that do not follow the traditional “gotta catch ’em” and battle formula, one is a new series. It is called Pokémon Concierge on Netflix and here is my review of it.

So, what is Pokémon Concierge about? Well, it’s about this girl by the name of Haru. Who, after going through a breakup, decides to get a job as a concierge at a Pokémon resort.

That is where she meets Ms. Watanabe, her supervisor, who gives Haru the task of trying to find a Pokémon partner of her own. During her day at the resort, she befriends two other co-workers, Alisha and Tyler, along the way. During the second and third episodes, Haru befriends a shy Psyduck and meets a variety of Pokémon.

When it comes to stop motion animation, they do it perfectly and at the same time respect the original art style of the Pokémon characters, it’s as if I’m seeing a 3D version of any of the Pokémon shows.

When it comes to the English voice acting, they did an excellent job in choosing the good actors. For Haru, she is voiced by Karen Fukuhara, which she most notable as Kimiko in “The Boys”, she does an excellent job in giving Haru a bubbly and uppity personality.

Alisha is voiced by Imani Hakim known for playing Tanya Rock in “Everybody Hates Chris”. Tyler is voiced by Josh Keaton known for playing Jack Darby in “Transformers: Prime”. He does a good dude bro voice for his character and Ms. Watanabe is voiced by Lori Alan, known for playing Pearl Krabs in “SpongeBob SquarePants”. Unlike how typical a Pokémon episode would leave you all tense, Pokémon Concierge on the other hand will leave you in a relaxed mood while watching.

I also love the colors they used, giving the show an island and relaxing vibe.

Now when it comes to the main message of the show, they did a marvelous job in presenting it, which is “don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone.”

Overall, I give this show a 100/10.

They did an excellent job on voice acting, story, design and, with more episodes being ordered, I’ll be ready to check in for more.
