Let them eat cereal

Kellogg’s has released a commercial with a human family eating dinner at a kitchen table with two animated characters: Tony the Tiger and an animated chicken.

While it may sound like a normal commercial, let it be known that it is the most tone-deaf advertisement I have seen in 2024.

Americans are facing a food crisis with the price of groceries rising before their eyes.

This commercial encourages families that are struggling financially to eat cereal for dinner, as it is a low-cost meal.

While it is a low-budget option, the advertised cereal has little to no nutritional value, as it is extremely processed and full of sugar.

I could have more respect for the approach if the product placement included a healthy option, but unfortunately it did not.

As expected, the commercial launched a wave of controversy on social media.

Kellogg’s CEO Gary Pilnick’s arrogant mouth decided to release a PR nightmare.

“The cereal category has always been quite affordable and it tends to be a great destination when consumers are under pressure,” Pilnick said.

Pilnick also stated that 25 percent of their customers already eat cereal for dinner.

This statistic felt awfully convenient, perhaps because in 2022 Kellogg’s was encouraging customers to eat cereal as dinner for a chance to win $5,000.

Pilnick’s response has now sparked a nationwide boycott, with consumers telling Pilnick to “take his Frosted Flakes and shove them.”

Kellogg’s is the epitome of manipulation, and it is unacceptable.

Readers, I encourage you to avoid all Kellogg’s products and research available alternatives.
