Review: The Walking Dead is Back

New spinoff brings back Rick Grimes

The world of “The Walking Dead” (TWD) has returned with AMC +’s new hit show “The Ones Who Live.” The show features the story of Rick Grimes after the cliffhanger event of the finale of Season 9 of TWD.

TWD was initially a comic series created by Robert Kirkman, who has also created other notable works such as comic series and now television show “Invincible.”

TWD has grown vastly since its television debut in 2010, creating multiple spinoffs shows, video games and other forms of media that all collaboratively make its way into TWD universe.

Following the events of “The Walking Dead” Rick Grimes is now under supervision of a secretive organization called the Civic Republic Military (CRM) and must comply with them to make his way back to his family.

The narrative direction of the show feels original and refreshing yet Andrew Lincoln’s return as Rick Grimes gives the show a sense of familiarity and nostalgia while also allowing his character to develop in unexpected ways.

The rest of the cast is also impressive, with standout performances from Danai Gurira, playing Michonne, and Pollyanna McIntosh playing Jadis. The supporting cast brings depth and complexity to the story.

Production values such as the cinematography, sound, and special effects enhance the overall viewing experience of the show in its dark and gritty world providing an immersive experience for new and returning viewers of TWD universe.

“The Ones Who Live” provides a fresh new perspective on TWD universe; making it compatible for new viewers to come in and enjoy the show without having much background.

“The Ones Who Live” released its first episode back in February and currently has six episodes out for fans of this post-apocalyptic universe to enjoy.
