It is with a heavy heart that KPD reports that the body Dr. Wu, has been located at Boca Chica Beach, near Brownsville, TX . The Officers and Staff of the Kingsville Police Department extend their sincerest condolences to the family of Dr. Wu for their loss.
The Kingsville community has taken to social media to find university mathematics professor Dr. Hueytzen Wu, 74, who went missing late last week.
According to a press release by the Kingsville Police Department, Wu was reportedly last seen by his neighbors Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:45 p.m.
The University Police Department received a welfare check call from one of Dr. Wu’s colleagues Monday after he did not report to work Friday or Monday.
Community members on social media said they saw Wu at convenience stores in Benavides and Hebbronville late Thursday afternoon. Most witnesses indicated Wu looked confused and dazed.
“If I’m not mistaken, this man was in Benavides…he caught my attention because he parked right behind me at an angle, got off and was looking around like he was lost. My husband got in the car he said, ‘I wonder where he is from,’ the cashier said [it was] his second or third time coming in the store,” one person on social media wrote.
Wu is a diabetic and without his medications, his symptoms are consistent with someone who is not receiving proper medication.
A significant amount of cash was withdrawn from Wu’s account since he was reported missing, according to police. Wu was last seen driving a 2015 white Nissan Odyssey. The vehicle was found crashed in Boca Chica Beach near Brownsville, Texas.
“We can only speculate about whether he was still in the van when it crashed. No people were found in it. Search and rescue are in that area now. It is possible he is still somewhere in the Hebbronville area or anywhere between there and McAllen. Please keep spreading the word and keep alert for him,” Tracy Joyner Bru, a family friend said.
