Review: Queen B tries on her cowboy hat

Beyoncé drops a country hit

Singer-songwriter Beyonce connected to her Texan roots and released two singles anticipating her next album.

It is believed that the upcoming album, “Act II,” releasing on March 29, will be driving down the country roads because of the singles. “Act I of Renaissance” dived into the features of house and disco music, so this second rendition is quite new and exciting for this artist. At the end of a Verizon Superbowl commercial, Beyonce says, “Okay, they ready. Drop the new music.”

After the advertisement, “16 Carriages” and “Texas Hold ’Em” were released on streaming platforms.

I personally find myself deeply stirred by the rhythm of the instruments and tone in her lyrics in “16 Carriages.” This track carries a softer more blues feeling that encapsulates her storytelling with a twangy hint to it. Through the song, she tells her journey about being “overworked and overwhelmed” yet still creating art, as stated in the lyrics, from age 16 when she started her breakthrough as an artist.

“Texas Hold ’Em” has the traditional lively country sound to it.

The track shines a light on her hometown of Houston and the African American roots of country music.

The first sound heard on the song is a strum of the banjo that makes you want to dance.

This song was a popular favorite in my playlists, the radio and the charts. “Texas Hold ’Em” hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Beyonce also made history as the first Black woman to reach No. 1 for Hot Country Songs.

Despite being known for being able to sing in all different genres like R&B, Hip-Hop and pop, people were not expecting her to go in the country direction.

Yet, she broke the internet and made a stamp in country music billboards.

I personally will be seated for the drop of “Act II.”
