Review: ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ is an action-packed film

Anthoney Mackie takes on the shield

Anthony Mackie fully embraces the responsibility of carrying the shield in “Captain America: Brave New World.” This newest Marvel film was released on Feb.14  in the United States as part of “Phase Five” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). So far, the movie has grossed $344.5 million internationally, making it the third highest-grossing film of 2025.

Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, became the new Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Disney+ series in 2021. This latest film begins five months after General Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), has been elected President of the United States. Sam is investigating a conspiracy involving the newly elected president. President Ross informs Sam and the Falcon that the U.S. will govern the mining and distribution of adamantium (an important factionary metallic mineral in the MCU).

While investigating, Captain America and the Falcon find out that President Ross has secretly been working with Dr. Samuel Sterns, the same doctor who had assisted Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) into transforming into the Hulk. Dr. Sterns had gained super intelligence as a side effect due to an accident while helping Banner.

Dr. Sterns had been helping President Ross with his health by developing pills to counteract Ross’ heart condition. The pills ended up being a ruse for Sterns’ plans for revenge on Ross to turn him into the Red Hulk using gamma radiation and destroy the White House.

The action scenes were very well executed, and the plot of the movie greatly showcased how an average man can still be a hero against a super-powered villain. The film did an exceptional job with taking more of an espionage and political atmospheric approach. I think this movie is absolutely worth watching. “Captain America: Brave New World” is in theaters now.
