That’s not manure you smell, it’s success

Hard ridden year ends with buckles

The Texas A&M University Kingsville Rodeo team has ridden their way into success in and out of the arena, from champion buckles to more than doubling their team members.

“Last year we had five total contestants three of them rodeoed all year long. This year we started out with 23 that rodeoed for the majority of the year and we ended up with 15 going into the last few rodeos. It was a tremendous turn around in numbers and hopefully we can keep growing,” Rodeo Team Coach John Schuman said.

Kera Lamb of the TAMUK Rodeo team earned herself the honor of being the team’s high point woman for the past two semesters, but it wasn’t only her work in the arena that was recognized; she also earned herself a spot on the president’s list.

“It feels really good, it’s a really good achievement to get done especially with going to school and working, and just managing all of that,” Lamb said.

Success isn’t always guaranteed, and the TAMUK Rodeo team saw their best success all year the weekend of April 26, with men’s team ropers Jo Jo Brown and JT Garcia earning themselves a buckle as champions of the Hill College Rodeo.

“We for sure came a long way from the beginning of the season. John helps us out quite a bit getting to the rodeo and leaving the rodeo, but other than that, things sure ended in a good way – I guess you could say,” Brown said.
