Brat summer: high fashion styles

Lime green, leather, mini shorts

Brat summer is over? I think it’s here to stay.

It’s been a year since Charli XCX released BRAT, an album that is “characterized by a confident, independent and hedonistic attitude,” captured by “brat”- Collins Dictionary’s 2024 Word of the Year.

The spirit continues as the singer goes on tour, starting right in Austin, Texas.

As the sun set, flashes of lime green surrounded Moody Center anticipating the kickoff of Charli XCX’s BRAT Tour.  For night one and two in Texas, the crowd ditched the cowboy boots for black platforms, ready to party with Charli.

The feel of the BRAT album is unapologetic, playful and a glamourous mess, and that’s exactly what was embodied in the crowd.

Charli XCX has defined her signature look with freed curls, sunglasses and mini shorts, an aesthetic that inspired many of the tour’s standout fan outfits. Knowing the high-energy shows she delivers, fans dressed in looks that mirrored her style. They were bold, breathable and built for a night of nonstop dancing, jumping and partying.

The vibrant shade popped up everywhere, from accessories to full statement pieces. Lime green tour shirts were paired with miniskirts, distressed pieces, leather, fishnets, glitter, and sequins, adding a playful edge to the already electric scene.

Incorporating lime green into an outfit is a choice, but fans made it work.

If raving in platforms during the concert wasn’t enough, fans kept their energy going at the afterparties. Rooms pulsed with brats dressed in edgy black and silver fits, sunglasses on, as those lime green lights bounced off their lenses. As club classics filled the air, I paused to take in the BRAT revolution and its undeniable influence on pop culture, fashion and music. Just like the closing video at the concert said, “please don’t let it be over.”
