Team USA makes winter Olympic history

Stars, stripes, gold for America

The 2026 Winter Olympics have come and gone, and it was a historic year for America. America made history scoring the most gold medals in the Winter Olympics. From the young phenom, Alyssa Liu to the men’s and women’s hockey teams scoring a gold medal over the Canadian hockey teams, America was stellar in this year’s Olympics.

Liu’s win in women’s figure skating singles was the first gold medal in that competition for the U.S. since 2002, an amazing storyline in this year’s Olympics but what might be an even better story is the one of the athlete herself. Liu first competed in the Olympics in 2022 at the age 16, she then shortly retired from competitive figure skating. During her time off Liu focused on college and other facets of her life before returning back to the ice ring in 2024 with a fresh mentality leading to gold for the USA team.

The USA team broke their record for medals in a Winter Olympics with 12 gold medals.

The women of Team USA made history for winning 8 out of the 12 gold medals for America’s team. From figure skating to playing hockey, the women’s team have proved yet again that they can do whatever they set their minds to. Their performance helped the U.S. reach record breaking heights and has inspired a generation of young females to follow their dreams.

A huge highlight was the amazing game between USA and Canada in men’s hockey. Hockey is a sport that is bigger in Canada than in America, so this is the equivalent to Canada beating us at basketball during the Summer Olympics.

One of the sadder stories of this year’s Winter Olympics if you’re a team America fan is the story of Lindsey Vonn. After making a return that nobody really expected due to a previous injury many were excited to see Vonn compete again. Sadly, in her first outing back Vonn wiped out and sustained another brutal injury that nearly cost her a leg. Seeing Vonn wipe out the way she did was truly a sad sight to see, especially since she spent so much time physically and mentally preparing to compete again at the Olympic level. Seeing team America go out and perform to the best of their abilities and bring home 12 gold medals is nothing short of patriotic.
