Students on the hunt

An egg-citing race to the golden surprise

Students recently had an opportunity to hunt down some big prizes in the spirit of Spring.

On March 26, the Javelina Student Engagement and Campus Life Office (JSEC) hosted their annual Easter Egg Bash at the College of Engineering. The event was open to students to participate in an Easter Egg hunt along with free food and drinks being offered, all at the small cost of simplifying signing in to the event itself.

Ruben Loza, a coordinator at the Student Engagement office helped greet students and made announcements.

“At the Easter Egg Bash, our team in Student Engagement and Campus Life hosted the event in collaboration with the College of Engineering. We provided students with an Easter Egg Hunt, free pizza, ice-cold sodas, music and pictures with Porky. Students who found the winning golden eggs received a TAMUK SECL basket, which included prizes like a Nintendo Switch Lite or Beats Solo 4 headphones,” Loza said.

Additionally, the Student Event Coordinator followed up with props to the team that helped put the event together.

“It was amazing to work with Dr. Heidi Taboada, Ms. Theresa ‘Tessy’ Walker and Laura Salinas from engineering, who helped with cupcake decorating stations and providing their lawn for the event. My team of full-time staff and student workers were also incredible, supporting students and ensuring everything ran smoothly. Seeing everyone enjoy themselves and celebrate together made all our efforts worthwhile,” Loza said.

The College of Engineering’s lawn was bursting with campus life. Colleen Fischer, a freshman majoring in Criminal Justice, attended the event after hearing about it on the JSEC’s Instagram page.

“It was my first time attending an engineering event, and I would attend more events like this. I had lots of fun,” Fischer said.

Helping with the event was Edroy New, a junior majoring in Criminology and a member of the JSEC’s Event Staff.

“I would encourage everyone else to get out of their shell and try to go to an event on campus; sometimes all you need is one event to want to be involved,” New said.
