Student and professor test positive for COVID-19

Texas A&M University-Kingsville has been notified that one staff member and one student have tested positive for COVID-19. Both were last on campus Thursday, June 18, 2020. The two cases appear to be unrelated.

As part of contact tracing protocol, the Texas Department of State Health Services Region 11 should contact any individuals believed to have had close contact with the positive cases.

Close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of a person with COVID-19 for 10-15 minutes.

As a proactive measure, the University currently is working to identify members of the campus community who may have been in close contact with the positive cases. That information will assist in the contact tracing process.

University custodial staff has begun the process of disinfecting the affected areas.

Members of the campus community are encouraged to continue to self-monitor and are encouraged to get tested should they begin to exhibit symptoms of COVID-19. Testing for COVID-19 is covered for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Texas members with no prior authorization needed and no member copays, deductibles or coinsurance.
