Four Javelinas named ITA Scholar-Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. (ITA/TAMUK) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its annual Scholar-Athletes for the 2019-20 season on Tuesday, with Texas A&M-Kingsville having four honorees following a spring season cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Seniors Stephanie Baerman (San Antonio, Texas) and Victoria Romanovskaia (Simferopol, Crimea, Russia), junior Julia Rauer (Leiselheim, Germany) and sophomore Maya Donkor (McLean, Va.) all received the honor for head coach Autumn Wollenzien. To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, the following criteria must be met: have a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the current academic year, and must be listed on the institutional eligibility form.

To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must meet the following requirements: have a team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.0 scale, all student-athletes included should be listed on the institutional eligibility form, and all varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

The complete list of Scholar-Athletes, as well as the All-Academic Teams, can be found at the following link: 2019-20 ITA Release

Rauer becomes just the second Javelina in program history to receive the award for four consecutive years, joining Martina Urrutia who was the first to complete the task following the 2017-18 academic year.

Romanovskaia is the fifth member of the Blue and Gold to be named Scholar-Athlete for three straight seasons, joining Rauer, classmate Valerie Ruiz (San Antonio, Texas), Urrutia and Nadia Grlj with the distinction. Rauer and Ruiz reached the landmark in the 2018-19 academic year, while Urrutia and Grlj both did so in 2016-17.
