Whether its COVID, the flu or even just a common cold plenty of students find themselves suddenly sick during the start of a new school year. This can be for a variety of reasons, but it’s mostly due to being in crowds and just getting used to your new environment. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to help you stay healthy and avoid getting sick.

Washing your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is good practice. Be sure to wash your hands before eating, after using the restroom, and after being in public places. Practicing good respiratory hygiene by covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing also helps immensely.

Maintaining a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins is important. These foods provide essential vitamins and minerals to support your immune system. Also, get enough sleep. Aim for 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep each night to help your body recharge and stay healthy. Stay physically active. Engage in regular exercise to boost your immune system and improve overall health. It’s also important to avoid close contact with individuals who are sick. If you’re feeling unwell, it’s important to stay home and rest to prevent spreading any potential illnesses.
