Review: Cowboys modern day defense

Young talent takes step forward

The Dallas Cowboys defense has been absolutely dominant.

In week one, the Cowboy defense caused seven sacks and three turnovers, one being a forced fumble by Trevon Diggs that was taken back for six by CB DaRon Bland.

By the end of the game, they were able to hold the Giants to zero points during this night.

In week two, while they gave up one touchdown because of the Cowboy defense causing four turnovers and three sacks against the Jets which turned into good opportunities for the offense. It could be a bit soon to jump to conclusions, but the defense we have seen at the start of this season has been reminiscent of the 1960s and 1970s Cowboys “Doomsday Defense.”

During the game on Sept. 17, the commentators stated the Dallas Cowboys have the best defense they have seen since the 2005-2006 season.

The rumor is that the unstoppable Cowboys’ defense is only an amplified continuation of what they were able to do last season as they led the league in turnovers in the 2022-2023 season.

Throughout the off season the Cowboys were able to pick up star veteran CB Stephon Gilmore, who through week two already has one interception.

The addition of Gilmore solidifies the already stacked secondary consisting of players such as Diggs and Jayron Kearse. The real highlight of the Cowboys’ defense is their absolutely tremendous defensive line led by third-year linebacker Micah Parsons who was a frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year as a rookie in the league.

If the young Cowboys defense continues to do their thing the saying “defense wins championships” could very well be true for the Dallas Cowboys as their offense compliments their defense in abundance.
