How students combat stress from finals

Javelinas find ways to stay level minded

As the 2023 fall semester comes to a close and the holiday season begins to come about, students face their last obstacle of the semester, final exams. During this time, the stress levels of students can reach high levels and this can be overwhelming. However, students around campus have their own ways of dealing with stress and not letting it overtake them and maintain their focus. “For me it can be really stressful because of the workload but taking breaks while you study can be a big help,” Freshman Joe Eric Rivas said. With this being his first semester of college, Rivas looks to face his first round of college finals prepared. “It is good to make sure you get enough rest too and not overwork yourself by staying up all night because then you can’t focus,” Rivas added. Along with breaks, being organized can be a big factor in helping students manage their time “I try to stay organized by creating a study schedule and reviewing material in small chunks,” Senior Dayacelly Garcia said. With a creative organization of materials, this can help students in retaining information from their notes that way when it comes time to take the final exam, they will not only be calm but confident as well that they will pass their respective exams. Another way to combat the stress of finals is to make sure not to overload yourself by trying to study multiple subjects at once. “I usually make a to do list of topics and chapters I need to study for,” Senior Madison Flores said. As students prepare themselves the best way they can, it is good to remember to take breaks, get enough rest, and stay on task.
