How to Adult: Having to head home for the holidays

Keeping peace with loved ones

It’s the end of yet another semester here at TAMUK and many of us are heading home to be with our loved ones during this holiday season. Many students feel excited and are happy to be with their families, but it’s also normal to feel a little stressed and worry about dealing with family, especially over the holidays. As college students, we can feel stressed when they go home for the holidays because there can be a lot of expectations and pressure. College life is often different from home life, and returning to that environment can bring up various emotions and challenges.

Additionally, being around family members and navigating different dynamics can sometimes be overwhelming. It’s important to remember to take care of yourself and communicate your needs during this time. Remember, it’s okay to feel stressed, and finding healthy ways to manage it can make the holidays more enjoyable.

When it comes to handling family during the holidays, open communication is key. It’s important to have honest conversations with your family members about any concerns or issues you may have. Setting boundaries and expressing your needs can also help create a more harmonious environment. Finding common ground and engaging in activities that you all enjoy can strengthen your bond. Remember to practice patience and empathy, as everyone has their own perspectives and emotions.

If things get overwhelming, it’s totally okay to take breaks and have some alone time to recharge. Try to focus on the positive moments and cherish the time you have with your family. Celebrate the joyous moments and create lasting memories, and make it a goal to have a great time with your loved ones.
