Review: Joji brings ‘Pandemonium’ to Texas

‘Glimpse of Us’ singer performs at Moody Center

On Oct. 3, I got to experience my first Joji concert in Austin, and I was not disappointed with what was delivered to me.

Though this was a good concert, what I did not like was how long the opening acts were. The first opening acts were Lil Toe and Savagerealm, both of their acts were good, then Kenny Beats was the second opening act. Both acts performed well, but I felt a disconnect after a certain time just waiting for Joji to perform.

When it finally came to Joji’s part of the concert, I was expecting him to be all mellow and depressed, the experience was very you would say pure “Pandemonium.”

Joji’s intro was interesting to say the least, his first song of the night was his 2019 song “Sanctuary.”

Most of the songs performed during the concert were from his three albums including his 2017 LP “In Tongues.” Now this is where the experience gets wild, during the concert, Joji joked around a lot and even some unexpecting surprises, including reviewing random videos from the internet, an AI generated diss phone call from Barack Obama and then a random hoop shot.

However, the most unexpected was a mid-concert rave from a group of DJs called “Yebi Labs” with their logo being quite questionable. They did an excellent job and performed an EDM version of Joji’s hit song, “Glimpse of Us.”

Joji later performed some more songs and then close to the end he went mellow and first performed “Slow Dancing in the Dark” and said goodbye then said “psych” and performed “Glimpse of Us” with then ending the concert.

Overall, this was a fun concert experience. Though a lot of times Joji was mellow, he made it up with cracking jokes and for this I would definitely want to see him again.
